In Greek Mythology - Does fate really rule the destiny of men?

In the Iliad, we see how the gods interfere in the lives of many mortals on a daily basis, and some even help them circumvent death. On the other hand, in the film Troy, in which gods are absent, those who escaped death as a result of special aid from the gods were killed in the film (i.e. Paris). After reading the Iliad and watching the film Troy, to what extent do you agree with the statement that “Gods do not hold man’s destiny. Fate Rules the destiny of men”.
